AL WUKAIR wins Prix Jacques Le Marois Gr.1

August 14, 2017

It was a glorious weekend for AL SHAQAB RACING at Group 1 level around the world, and headed by AL WUKAIR winning the Prix Jacques Le Marois Gr.1 over 1600m/1mile in Deauville.

The 3 year old colt trained by André Fabre clinched the Gr.1 in a fighting battle with his stablemate Inns of Court, and Thunder Snow. Ridden by Frankie Dettori, AL WUKAIR (Dream Ahead & Macheera) tracked the leaders, and entered a battle with the leaders to win on the line.

AL WUKAIR was unbeaten as a two-year old, and returned in this 3 year old career at the 2000 Guineas Gr.1 at Newmarket where he was third to Churchill, and subsequently was second in the Prix Messidor Gr.3 at Maisons - Laffitte.

Dettori said after the win  "The rain helped because I rode him on firm at Maisons-Laffitte and he didn’t really like that."

André Fabre commented  "I think the QEII at Ascot will be next for him. He's in the Champion Stakes too, but I think the Irish Champion Stakes could comes a bit soon."

On another continent, Jean Claude Rouget trained AFANDEM had a career best result in the Secretariat Stakes Gr.1, at Arlington Park when third for jockey Frankie Dettori.
