Breeders, it's not too late

June 6, 2019

For breeders who are wondering whether to cover their mares in June, May-born foals have been flaunting their success on the track lately, and what’s more, at Classic level! Following on from HERMOSA’s (who was born on the 6th May) 1000 Guineas Double, last weekend’s Epsom Derby Gr.1 winner, ANTHONY VAN DYCK, born on the 19th May, was a timely reminder that multiple May foals have gone on to be top-class racehorses.
The most famous example of this is the foundation sire NORTHERN DANCER (born on the 27th May 1961), who flew home in the Kentucky Derby in record time. The Kentucky Derby has seen its fair share of May-foaled winners, including MINE THAT BIRD (10th May), THUNDER GULCH (23rd May), and this year the first three past the post, MAXIMUM SECURITY (14th May), COUNTRY HOUSE (8th May) and CODE OF HONOR (23rd May) picked up the baton.

Our very own MSHAWISH (picture here © Taylor Made Stallions), a Gr.1 performer both in England and in the USA, was born on 16th May, whilst closer to home, Arc heroine DANEDREAM was a 7th May foal. Prix du Jockey Club and Prix Jean Prat Classic winner LAWMAN came into the world on the 9th May.
The Al Shaqab stallions will continue to cover into June, dependent on availability, and we are available to discuss your matings at any time!
