Galileo Gold to Stand at Tally-Ho Stud

September 4, 2017

GALILEO GOLD  will stand at Tally-Ho Stud, Ireland for the 2018 season.

Trained by Hugo Palmer, GALILEO GOLD ran out the emphatic winner of last year's 2,000 Guineas, defeating the like of Massaat and Ribchester, before coming out on top in a clash of the European Guineas winners in a vintage renewal of the Group 1. St. James Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot. Also in his 3 year old career he ran second in the Irish 2,000 Guineas and the Group 1 Sussex Stakes, in which he was denied only by a neck.

GALILEO GOLD's brilliant Classic season at three followed an excellent juvenile campaign that featured three wins in five starts. Quick enough to break his maiden over 6 furlogns at Salisburg in June, he went on to land the Group 2 Vintage Stakes at Goodwood and run third in the Group 1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere at Longchamp.

In all, GALILEO GOLD won five races and £963,092 in prize-money.

"GALILEO GOLD is a very special horse to us at Al Shaqab since he became our first Classic winner in last year's 2,000 Guineas (Gr.1)," commented Khalifa Al Attiya, Al Shaqab's General Manager. He is an outstanding individual and we are very pleased to extend our partnership with Tally-Ho to stand GALILEO GOLD in Ireland alongside Mehmas."

A member of the Green Desert sire line, GALILEO GOLD is out of a Galileo half-sister to dual Group 1 winning sprinter Goldream. He is also related to champion Montjeu, the sire of 31 Group 1 winners. "We are delighted to stand a miler of the quality of GALILEO GOLD, " said Roger O'Callaghan of Tally-Ho Stud. " He was a tough Group 1 performer at two who had the speed to win over 6 furlongs. He then trained on into one of the season's top milers at three whose winning performances in the 2,000 Guineas and St. James's Palace Stakes showcased his high cruising speed and turn of foot. Not only that, he is related to one of the most influencial sire of the modern era in Montjeu"

The stud fee for GALILEO GOLD will be set at a later date.
