A Quartet for the Al Shaqab homebreds

October 11, 2019

Four of the Al Shaqab Racing homebreds have past the post first in the past few days, including a Stakes victory and a triplet of exciting winners yesterday, each a different generation bred at Haras de Bouquetot.

On Monday at Compiègne, MASHAEL was the stylish winner of the Prix Charles Laffitte LR, for her first attempt at Listed level. This 3-year-old filly is still very unexposed having run just four times, and keeps improving. She opened her scorecard this summer at Clairefontaine. She is exceptionally well bred; a daughter of Dubawi and Al Jassasiyah (Galileo), a full sister to Classic winner Was and Al Naamah, second in the Prix Cléopatre Gr.3. Al Jassasiyah has a Le Havre yearling and a foal by SHALAA.

On Thursday at Bordeaux, the 2-year-old NEVADA was the sensational winner of the Prix du Château Grandis (Maiden, 1 mile) on her racecourse debut against more experienced horses. Her trainer François Rohaut said:

« She’s a filly who works well in the morning and has quality. We wanted to run in a maiden, it didn’t have to be a newcomers. She was entered at Tarbes on Sunday but I preferred to run her here. She ran well despite an unlucky draw. »

NEVADA is by Kingman out of Rjwa (Muhtathir), a runner-up in the Prix Saint-Alary Gr.1 and the Prix Occitanie LR, and third in the Prix de Diane Gr.1 as well as the Prix Pénélope Gr.3. At stud, she produced EFFRAAN (Teofilo), winner of the Prix Frédéric de Lagrange LR. Rjwa has a yearling by SHALAA and a foal by ZELZAL.

Again at Bordeaux, the 4-year-old AL MASHRAB, by Al Shaqab sire STYLE VENDOME, added a sixth success to his record when winning the Prix Henri de la Mettrie, a smart Class 2, where he beat Group winner Fas. AL MASHRAB is out of Candicans (Dansili), a full sister to the Gr.1 winner and sire Zambezi Sun. Candicans has a yearling by Mehmas.

On the same day, TORONADO's TUNED proved the best of a field of 11 on her USA debut at Keeneland. The regally bred 3-year-old daughter of Breeders' Cup winner Zagora is showing great promises for her new career in America, and will aim at Stakes races next. TUNED becomes the first US winner for her sire TORONADO.
