First Foals by Thunder Moon

Filly by Thunder Moon & Holdbacktheriver just hours after her birth at Haras de Bourgeauville

The inaugural foal from Thunder Moon, gearing up for his second breeding season at Haras de Bouquetot, was born at Haras de Montaigu during the Stallion Route weekend. Erwan de Chambord comments about this first foal out of the young mare Eterea, herself a daughter of a Blacktype mare by Sadler's Wells:

"We are very pleased with this first foal by Thunder Moon with a maiden mare. He is well-built with good bone, great limb conformation, and a very good temperament so far!"

Three additional filly foals also made their appearance last week: a daughter of the Prix de Malleret Gr.2 winner Al Wathna, born in Ireland; as well as a daughter of the Blacktype mare Sporty Doll, born at Mrs. Elisabeth Ribard's Haras de la Cauvinière. At Haras de Bourgeauville, a foal out of tthe multiple winner Holdbacktheriver is described by her breeder Philip Lybeck as

"a balanced filly with scope and very elegant, very much in the image of her sire."

The first winner of the National Stakes Gr.1 to stand as a stallion in France from his debut season, a race known for revealing top-class stallions such as Dubawi or Danehill Dancer, Thunder Moon is also the only horse to have ever defeated the world champion St Mark's Basilica at the highest level.
