PEDIGREE  NOTES

Considering the proven crosses with both Sea The Stars and Kingmambo (respectively ZELZAL’s sire and damsire) one could be confident that mares from the Danehill/Danzig line would be an excellent match with ZELZAL.

Sea The Stars’ most consistent results at the highest level have been with the Nasrullah line, which appears in 7 of his 8 Group 1 winners and in 72% of his Group winners, mostly through Shirley Heights, Bold Ruler, Highest Honor, Blushing Groom and Mill Reef. It would be tempting to try inbreeding on this line since it appears on the fourth generation of ZELZAL’s pedigree through High Estate.

ZELZAL’s second damsire Sadler’s Wells has of course been the most successful cross with both Sea The Stars and Kingmambo, yet other stallions from the direct Northern Dancer line have proven their value: Storm Cat as well as the stallions hailing from Nijinsky and Nureyev have all produced Group winners by Sea The Stars. Inbreeding mares from any of these lines to ZELZAL could thus also prove fruitful.

Outcross matings that would be interesting are with the German lines of Konigsstuhl or Surumu, who are the damsires of four of Sea The Stars’ Group winners. Another tempting outcross would be with mares from the Hail To Reason line, and from the Sharpen Up line, who have each produced three Group winners by mating to Sea The Stars.
