Gr.1-winning miler Sahlan to join Haras de Bouquetot
AL SHAQAB RACING’s homebred Group 1-winning miler SAHLAN, a son of the late Wootton Bassett, will retire to Haras de Bouquetot for the 2027 breeding season following a racing career highlighted by a top-class three-year-old campaign and victory in the Qatar Prix du Moulin de Longchamp Gr.1.
Trained by Francis-Henri Graffard, SAHLAN produced his career-best performance when landing the Prix du Moulin at three, earning a Timeform rating of 118. Supplemented for the race, he defeated a high-class field of proven international milers including multiple Gr.1 winner Rosallion, Classic winners Henri Matisse and Marhaba Ya Sanafi, Lockinge Stakes Gr.1 winner Lead Artist, as well as Gr.1 performers The Lion In Winter and Alcantor.
His Moulin victory also provided a striking measure of his speed. SAHLAN stopped the clock in what was then the fastest time recorded in the race for 25 years, having already broken the race record when winning the Prix Daphnis Gr.3 at Deauville on his previous start.
Precocious as well as progressive, SAHLAN won on his only start at two before returning at three with a runner-up finish in the Prix de Fontainebleau Gr.3. He progressed through the ranks during the season, culminating in his top-level success over a mile at ParisLongchamp.

By one of Europe’s most influential sires in Wootton Bassett, SAHLAN is out of the Stakes-winning Toronado mare Wasmya. A well-balanced, medium-sized horse, he combines an attractive physical profile with a pedigree offering breeders a wide range of mating options.
