Wooded's Woodshauna confirms Group credentials in Prix Djebel

WOODSHAUNA underlined his consistency and Group-level potential with a strong third-place finish in the Group 3 Prix Djebel at Deauville, finishing just half a length behind the runner-up SILIUS, with winner MARANOA CHARLIE scoring narrowly in a blanket finish.

Trained by Francis-Henri Graffard for Al Shaqab Racing and ridden by Christophe Soumillon, the colt was stepping up to Group company for the first time after a Listed success at Chantilly last month. Drawn on the inside, he travelled strongly throughout the 1,400-metre contest on Deauville’s straight course. Despite veering to his left in the final stages, he kept on gamely, shaping as though more was to come.

The first three home finished within less than two lengths of one another, leaving the remainder of the field trailing 6½ lengths behind – a testament to the quality at the head of the race.

By WOODED, currently the runner-up leading second-crop sire in Europe, and out of the Listed-placed Tosen Shauna, WOODSHAUNA continues to build a profile that suggests Group success is within reach.

Congratulations to his breeder, Haras de Magouet, and to all connections.
