A third Blacktype juvenile for Armor
ARMOR has added another Blacktype performer to his outstanding second crop, with BIG JET PLANE becoming the third from just 20 two-year-old runners this season.
The Miguel Blancpain-trained gelding stepped up to Stakes company for the first time in the Prix Arqana - Critérium de l’Ouest L. at Craon, finishing a close second in the 1,650-metre contest, just three-quarters of a length behind the winner.
Ridden by Hugo Boutin for Mane Stable, BIG JET PLANE was building on a remarkably consistent juvenile campaign. He opened his winning account over 1,400 metres at Le Lion-d’Angers in July and has now finished in the first three on five consecutive starts.
Bred by E. and A. de Watrigant, BIG JET PLANE is out of Super Eria, by Hold That Tiger.
He joins Blacktype winners ARMOR SUPREME and VALENTINA BELLA as the third Blacktype performer among ARMOR’s 20 two-year-old runners this season.
The result adds another dimension to the exceptional figures being produced by ARMOR’s second crop. His juveniles have now produced three individual Blacktype performers from only 20 runners, with ARMOR SUPREME and VALENTINA BELLA also finishing third and fourth respectively in the Prix d’Arenberg Gr.3 at ParisLongchamp earlier in the week.
Across his first two crops, ARMOR remains Europe’s leading second-crop sire by ratio of Blacktype winners to runners, ahead of St Mark’s Basilica, Space Blues, Starman, Palace Pier and Victor Ludorum. His current two-year-olds have been equally effective: 11% of his runners are Blacktype winners, placing ARMOR second among all sires of two-year-olds in Europe.
