COLBERT maintained his upward trajectory at Saint-Cloud on Friday, following up his maiden victory at Bordeaux with a determined success in Class 2 company over 2400 metres.
The André Fabre-trained colt was stepping up in grade after opening his account in late April and was asked a different question this time. Under Alexis Pouchin, he showed plenty of resolution when challenged in the closing stages, holding on to secure a second consecutive victory.
The son of Frankel has now won two of his four career starts and continues to strengthen a profile that has developed steadily since his return this spring. Bred by Ecurie des Monceaux, COLBERT is out of Secrete, a daughter of Cape Cross from one of the Wertheimer family's most accomplished lines. The pedigree traces back to the Group 1 winner Plumania and has recently produced Aventure, winner of the Prix Vermeille Gr.1 and a performer at the highest level.
Friday's success represented another step up the ladder for COLBERT, who has progressed from maiden company to Class 2 level in the space of two starts. On the evidence of his latest performance, a first appearance in Blacktype company could now be on the horizon.
