Our homebred BASHA broke his maiden in impressive fashion at Aix-les-Bains on Tuesday, producing a decisive display to land the 1800-metre contest on just his second career start.
Trained by Christopher Head and ridden by Sebastiano Deriu, the son of Toronado was building on the promise of his debut effort, having finished a close second at La Teste last month. Stepping up in trip, he travelled comfortably throughout before drawing clear to score by eight lengths.
The performance marked a notable step forward from his first appearance and suggested there is more to come from the three-year-old as he gains further experience. Bred by Al Shaqab Racing at Haras de Bouquetot, BASHA is out of Shotgun Gulch, a daughter of Thunder Gulch.
