JAWWAL, a three-year-old gelding by WOODED (WOOTTON BASSETT) out of AL JOHRAH (BATED BREATH), produced a fine performance to finish second in the Prix de l’Abbaye de Longchamp Gr.1. Ridden by Clément Lecoeuvre for trainer Vaclav Luka and owner Jiri Odchazel-Joly, the colt was bred by Al Shaqab Racing.
Seventeen runners went to post for the 1,000-metre sprint, contested on very soft ground at Longchamp. Breaking smartly from stall 9, JAWWAL soon raced up with the pace and travelled strongly throughout. He battled bravely in the closing stages, going down by only a short neck to the Group 1 winner ASFOORA.
He thus becomes the second Group 1 performer for his sire WOODED, whose first crop are only three this year further proof of a stallion with real promise.
A solid run that underlines the quality and consistency of this emerging bloodline!
