Leading sire of two-year-olds in France and among the top three sires of this generation in Europe, MEHMAS continues to rack up victories with his two-year-olds. Since the start of the year, he has achieved a strike rate of over 40% winners from runners in France and 34% winners from runners in Europe.
SMEXY, a two-year-old filly by MEHMAS out of NIJAH (PIVOTAL), got off the mark in the Tote Irish EBF Fillies Maiden over 7.1 furlongs on the standard surface at Leopardstown. Bred by McCraken Farms and owned by Mark Dobbin, she is trained by G M Lyons and was partnered by Colin Keane. Soon prominent on the inner, she was switched right over a furlong out before running on well to lead close home.
DAWN ROMANCE, a two-year-old filly by MEHMAS out of RED ROMANCE (DUTCH ART), recorded a first success in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Maiden over 7.9 furlongs on firm ground at Naas. Bred by Mark Hanly and Stephanie Hanly, she is owned by Dawn Romance Partnership and trained by M D O’Collaghan, with D B McMonagle in the saddle. In touch with the leaders, she made progress over a furlong out, was soon ridden and kept on to lead inside the final 110 yards.
HAYANDEE, a two-year-old filly by MEHMAS out of ENAITCHEES (ELZAAM), recorded her first victory in the Prix des Erables over 1000 metres on soft ground at Moulins. Bred by Petches Farm Ltd, she is owned by F.H. Nash Ltd and trained by Amy Murphy, with E. Verhestraeten in the saddle.
SHAHBANU, a two-year-old filly by MEHMAS out of SERENA’S QUEEN (IFFRAAJ), gained her first success in the Prix de la Cascade over 1600 metres on very soft ground yesterday at ParisLongchamp. Bred by Round Hill Stud, she is owned by Kaniz Bloodstock Investments and trained by Tim Donworth, with Aurelien Lemaitre in the saddle.
