Our homebred AFANDY delivered a performance of note at Deauville on Tuesday, taking the Prix Djebel Gr.3, one of the key spring trials over 1400 metres.
In a well-contested field, the son of MEHMAS confirmed the progress shown in his earlier runs. Always travelling comfortably just behind the leaders, he moved through to take control in the closing stages under Cristian Demuro, asserting decisively against solid opposition.
Trained by Jean-Claude Rouget, AFANDY continues a smooth upward trajectory. A winner on debut at Tarbes, he followed up in Class 2 company at Cagnes-sur-Mer before finishing second in a Listed race, and here takes another step forward with his first success at Group level.
This result in a recognised trial now places him among the horses to follow over a mile and intermediate distances as the season unfolds, with the potential to compete at the highest level. Bred at Haras de Bouquetot, AFANDY is by MEHMAS out of Jalwa (by Shalaa).
