Our colt SHAIHAAN made a notable return to action at the Curragh, opening his account over 1m2f in a maiden that saw him step up both in trip and in maturity.
Settled close to the pace, the son of Night Of Thunder travelled strongly throughout before asserting inside the final two furlongs. Once in front, he quickly put the race to bed, drawing clear with a decisive finishing effort on testing ground.
Trained by Donnacha O’Brien and ridden by Gavin Ryan, SHAIHAAN was returning from a break of over six months, having previously finished fourth in the Group 2 Beresford Stakes at the same track last autumn. This first success confirms the progression expected from a colt who had already shown ability at two. Out of Sea Of Faith, a winner over middle distances and by Sea The Stars, SHAIHAAN’s pedigree suggests further improvement over longer trips as the season unfolds.
