SPECIAL WOOD, an exciting juvenile filly by WOODED, kept her unbeaten record intact with a second straight victory at Vichy in the Prix de Randan over 1600 metres. After producing a striking last-to-first debut performance last month, she repeated the feat on her second start, this time overcoming two unbeaten rivals, both colts, in a thrilling finish.

Racing in the colours of Craig Bernick and trained by M. Pitart, SPECIAL WOOD was confidently delivered by Tony Piccone to narrowly assert over the ZELZAL colts ZAMBEZI and VASSY. Bred by Jean-Pierre-Joseph Dubois, she is out of Salerne, a daughter of Charm Spirit. SPECIAL WOOD now holds entries in both the Prix du Calvados Gr.2 at Deauville next week and the Prix d’Aumale Gr.2 at Longchamp in September.

The runner-up and third provided another strong advertisement for ZELZAL, who continues his excellent run of form with his juveniles this summer, with both colts losing out only by a head and a short head, the three first of them finishing in a nutshell.

Congratulations to all respective connections!
