A splendid week of racing highlighted by the 2020 Royal Ascot Meeting and plenty of exciting successes for our stallions TORONADO, OLYMPIC GLORY, SHALAA, MEHMAS and STYLE VENDOME. On the anniversary day of TORONADO impressively calling the G1 Queen Anne Stakes to his name at Royal Ascot, TACTICAL not only became his latest two-year-old Stakes winner, but he had the honor to provide Her Majesty The Queen with her first homebred winner in four years at Royal Ascot. Moving powerfully before quickening emphatically to hold off his rivals, he gained victory in the Listed Windsor Castle Stakes on June, 17 at second asking only. TORONADO celebrated plenty of other winners this week, including a duet on June, 20 with Stetchworth and Middle Park Studs-bred AMAZING NEWS crossing the line first at Newmarket and Mr and Mrs Welby-bred PRISONER’S DILEMMA recording his first victory at Naas on his seasonal comeback. In Italy, TORONADO's AIR COMFORT scored over the 1,200 meters of Milano racecourse on June, 21 while down-under, LONADO broke his maiden tag at Pakenham Park on June, 19 and ELDERFLOWER signed a second victory by 1,8 lengths at Ballarat on June, 16. Four times G1 victor OLYMPIC GLORY was seen in the winners’ enclosure on both side of the planet this week. Firstly with our three-year-old homebred IPHITOS being the king at Marseille-Vivaux on June, 20 and secondly with HAWAIIAN GEM recording an precious Australian victory at Ipswich on June, 17. Invincible Spirit’s best two-year-old performer ever and European leading first season stallion at the 2019 public auction sales in Europe, SHALAA was logically very much expected with his two-year-olds in 2020 and got the ball rolling with a first blacktype at Royal Ascot from 13 runners to date only. Bred by Silfied Bloodstock and Trickledown Stud and trained by John Gosden, SAEIQA ran an impressive third under our colors in the Group 2 Coventry Stakes on June, 20. There was also joy in Ireland for SHALAA this week with Stratford Place Stud-bred SHALAALAA breaking his maiden at first asking at Fairyhouse to become his sire’s second victor to date. The two-year-old colt is out of the Bertolini mare Cheap Thrills, a sister to smart two-year-old Bungle Inthejungle. SHALAA was not the only one to record a first black-type at Royal Ascot as Tally Ho Stud-based first season sire MEHMAS continued to impress with his two-year-olds. Joe and June Staunton-bred MUKER finished a close third to TORONADO’s TACTICAL in the Listed Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot on June, 17 while the day before, MEHMAS' BRIDGE DRESS ME remained unbeaten in two runs when scoring the Premio Criterium di Roma in Italy. Last but not least, our Haras du Grand Courgeon-based stallion STYLE VENDOME celebrated a new Stakes victory with STYLEDARGENT remaining unbeaten this season and impressively gaining victory in the Listed Grand Prix de Lyon on June, 21. Une splendide semaine de courses auréolée par l’édition 2020 du Meeting de Royal Ascot et par les belles et nombreuses victoires pour nos étalons TORONADO, OLYMPIC GLORY, SHALAA, MEHMAS et STYLE VENDOME.
A la date anniversaire où TORONADO avait signé un impressionnant succès dans les Queen Anne Stakes Gr.1 à Royal Ascot, son deux ans TACTICAL lui a apporté non seulement une nouvelle victoire de Stakes, mais a surtout eu l’honneur d’offrir à Sa Majesté la Reine son premier vainqueur en quatre ans à Royal Ascot. A l’issue d’un changement de vitesse décisif pour contrer les attaques de ses rivaux, il s’est octroyé la Listed Windsor Castle Stakes le 17 juin pour sa deuxième sortie seulement. TORONADO peut se targuer de nombreux gagnants cette semaine encore, et compte un doublé le 20 juin : élevé par Stetchworth et Middle Park Studs, AMAZING NEWS s’est imposé à Newmarket tandis que le produit de Mr et Mme Welby, PRISONER’S DILEMMA, a signé un victorieux retour à la compétition à Naas. En Italie, le trois ans par TORONADO, AIR COMFORT, a franchi la ligne d'arrivée de l'hippodrome de Milan en tête le 21 juin tandis qu’en Australie, LONADO perdait son statut de maiden le 19 juin à Pakenham Park et ELDERFLOWER remportait une deuxième victoire par 1,8 longueurs le 16 juin à Ballarat.
Notre quadruple vainqueur de Groupe 1 OLYMPIC GLORY ne s'éloigne pas du rond des vainqueurs et compte des victoires des deux côtés de la planète : l'une royale avec notre trois ans IPHITOS le 20 juin à Marseille-Vivaux et l'autre précieuse avec HAWAIIAN GEM le 17 juin en Australie à Ipswich.
Meilleur performer qu’Invincible Spirit ait jamais eu et étalon tête de liste aux ventes européennes en 2019, SHALAA était logiquement très attendu en 2020 avec ses deux ans et n'a pas dérogé à la règle : il enregistre le 20 juin son premier black-type à Royal Ascot avec seulement 13 chevaux en compétition. Elevé par Silfied Bloodstock et Trickledown Stud, notre poulain de deux ans confié à John Gosden, SAEIQA, a terminé impressionnant troisième du Groupe 2 Coventry Stakes de Royal Ascot. La joie était également de mise à Fairyhouse en Ireland avec SHALAALAA qui s’est imposé dès sa première sortie le 18 juin et s’inscrit comme le deuxième vainqueur de son père. Agé de deux ans et élevé par Stratford Place Stud, SHALAALAA est issu d’une sœur du tout bon deux ans Bungle Inthejungle.
SHALAA n’était pas le seul à enregistrer son premier black-type à Ascot et il a été rejoint par MEHMAS, stationné à Tally-Ho-Stud et qui impressionne lui-aussi avec ses deux ans. Elevé par Joe et June Staunton, son produit MUKER a signé une excellente troisième place le 17 juin dans la Listed Windsor Castle Stakes de Royal Ascot en concluant proche du lauréat TACTICAL, fils de TORONADO. La vieille, BRIDGE DRESS ME étendait quant à lui son record d’invicibilité avec un deuxième succès dans le Premio Critérium di Roma en Italie.
Basé au Haras du Grand Courgeon, notre étalon STYLE VENDOME a quant à lui célébré une nouvelle victoire de Stakes le 21 juin avec STYLEDARGENT, invaincu cette saison et impressionnant lauréat de la Listed Grand Prix de Lyon.
